Amazing statistic, right?
Think about it: most riders train hard on their skills and physical ability but less hard on their mindset. Once you know how important mindset is to success as well as to satisfaction in all aspects of life, you can see why it is key to nail this, not only for performance but for overall mental health.
Nasty things like nerves, pressure on yourself or pressure from others (perceived or real), feelings of inadequacy or feeling like you’re doing things “because you should”, rather than because you want to, can all hamper equestrians’ progress, at all levels.
Put it this way, when professional sportspeople in other disciplines have mindset coaching to help them achieve their potential and to make the difference when all other things are equal, why shouldn’t all equestrians, whether amateur or professional, do the same?
